A meeting of the Biomedical Waste Management District Level Monitoring Committee located in the district was held by the District Officer. Additional Collector Sheohar Civil Surgeon Sheohar DPM Sheohar and other officers were present in the said meeting.
The work being done by the biomedical waste generating health treatment facilities located in the district and the collective biomedical waste treatment center which treats and disposes of the biomedical waste was reviewed. In the said meeting, the District Magistrate directed the Civil Surgeon to ensure that the provision of Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016 is ensured by all government hospitals and private nursing homes. Under these provisions, non-compliance of which can be punished with a fine of ₹ 100000 and imprisonment for 5 years.
Similarly, in the city council area too, when medical waste is being emitted from sources other than hospitals and nursing homes, which needs proper management so that the environment can be saved from pollution of organic waste.
It was told in the meeting that when all the hospitals and nursing homes obtain authority from the Bihar State Pollution Control Council for compliance with the Medical Waste Rules, otherwise legal action can be taken by the Pollution Control Council.
