BJP criticized Congress’ statement on NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu, Congress retaliated
A day after senior Congress leader Narsingh Mishra said that his party will not support NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu, the BJP has slammed the party.
State BJP President Sameer Mohanty targeted the Congress during a press conference and said that a tribal woman from Odisha is ready to make the state proud, but the party (Congress) is unable to accept it.
“By the grace of Lord Jagannath, for the first time a woman from Odisha’s Scheduled Tribe has got an opportunity, and we are proud of it. But, Congress workers are saddened by such a decision. Congress is not able to accept it,” Mohanty said.
During the press meet, Mohanty targeted the Congress and said that it is for the tribals for which the Congress has come to power in Odisha. However, despite the love and support of the tribal people, the Congress is ignoring them.
Further, Mohanty said, “Senior Congress leader (Narasimha) presented his views before the people of Odisha. The dispute over Draupadi Murmu being the presidential candidate and the role of Congress in that will be decided by the people. In a democracy, The final power is in the hands of the people and they will decide on the statement of Congress.”
The BJP leader also said that if the Congress really cares about the people of Odisha, it needs to step out of its mind and support the tribal woman (Murmu).
On the other hand, OPCC chief Sharat Patnaik said that making Murmu its presidential candidate is the decision of the BJP and not the people of Odisha.
Patnaik said, “How can Congress support a BJP candidate? There is no question of supporting a BJP candidate. The candidate chosen by the BJP will get the support of the parties in alliance with the NDA. As per the order, we Congress. Will support the candidate.”
Further, Patnaik said, “Odisha and Odia’s point of view is completely personal. I feel proud to be Odia and I always take a stand for Odia as it is my birthplace. If Naveen Patnaik is really from Odia. love, so why did they send a non-Odia to Rajya Sabha and not Odia? It’s not about Odisha or Odia, it’s about India.”
