Former Congress MP and senior party leader V Hanumantha Rao on Saturday wrote to party interim president Sonia Gandhi asking her to take up the issue of caste census on priority in the ‘Chintan Shivir’ being held in Udaipur.

Former Congress MP and senior party leader V Hanumantha Rao on Saturday wrote a letter to the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi at the ‘Chintan Shivir’ (Chintan Shivir) being held in Udaipur.Congress Chintan Shivir) to raise the issue of caste-wise census on priority. In his letter, Rao referred to Sonia Gandhi (Sonia Gandhi) that extraordinary circumstances demand extraordinary actions. He hit out at the BJP-led central government on the issue, saying it was not paying heed to all the requests and demands of various sections, mainly the OBCs, to conduct the census on the basis of caste.

He said, ‘In the year 2018, when Rajnath Singh was the Home Minister, he had openly said that the census would be done on the basis of caste. But his assurance is yet to be seen. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who comes from OBC community, does not care about this important issue. He further said, ‘It is a fact that the census on the basis of caste was done long back in the year 1931. Till date there is no clarity on the caste-wise population of the country.

‘Positive message will go among OBC population’

He said, ‘I humbly suggest, being the former convener of the Parliamentary Forum of OBC MPs, that please raise the issue of caste-wise census on priority in the Chintan Shivir to put pressure on the NDA government.’ The letter said that, our initiative in this regard will also send a positive message among the OBC population in the country, and the weaker sections will feel happy. Apart from this, the vote bank of OBCs is also likely to tilt towards the Congress party.

It is being told that Congress can take steps to ensure 50 percent representation of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Minorities at every level in its organization. Party leader K Raju told that this proposal has come during the discussion in Chintan Shivir and it can be sent to the Congress Working Committee for approval.

Raju, a member of the Coordination Committee on Social Justice of the Congress set up for the Chintan Shivir, told reporters, “It was discussed whether organizational reforms should be done so that the party can send a message to the weaker sections.” He told that a proposal has also come that a social justice advisory committee should be formed under the President of Congress. This committee will suggest what steps should be taken so that the trust of these sections can be won.

Congress preparing to adopt the path of social engineering

Congress, which is going through its toughest phase due to continuous electoral defeat, is preparing to adopt the path of social engineering to once again connect the weaker sections with them. It can ensure 50 percent representation at every level in the organization for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and minority communities. On the second day of the party’s Chintan Shivir, along with agreeing on this subject, the Congress moved towards a change in its stand on the provision of quota within the quota for women’s reservation and made up its mind to advocate reservation in the private sector as well.
