Corona has spread badly in North Korea and a lockdown has been announced in the country. 15 additional deaths from “fever” have been reported on Sunday. State media there KCNA said a total of 42 people died, including 820,620 cases and at least 324,550 being treated. The country’s leader Kim Jong Un has said the fever has caused “great upheaval” in North Korea.

KCNA reported that all provinces, cities and counties of the country have been completely closed and working units, production units and residential units have been closed.

North Korea confirmed on Thursday that the highly contagious Omicron variant had been detected in the capital, Pyongyang, after Kim ordered a nationwide lockdown. This was the first official approval of the government regarding Kovid cases. It also pointed to the failure of the two-year coronavirus blockade in place since the start of the pandemic. “The spread of the deadly disease in our country since the founding of the DPRK,” Kim said on Saturday, referring to North Korea’s official name. There is a great upheaval.

The KCNA report did not say whether the new cases and deaths led to any testing for COVID-19, but experts say the country may now be struggling to get tested and diagnosed. The United States and South Korea have warned that Kim is preparing to conduct another nuclear test – which would be the seventh test – and that it could happen any day. Analysts have warned that Kim may intensify his nuclear test plans to distract North Korea’s population from the devastating Covid-19 outbreak.
