ED raids Chinese mobile manufacturer Vivo – After Xiaomi, now raids on the locations of Chinese company Vivo

ED on Tuesday raided 44 locations across the country of Chinese mobile company Vivo. The raids were conducted on allegations of money laundering. So far no statement has been received from the company in this regard.

These raids have been done in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and South.

In the year 2020, the Meerut police of Uttar Pradesh filed a fraud case against Vivo for making 13,500 phones of the same IMEI number. There cannot be two phones with the same IMEI number and there is a provision of jail term for doing so.

Why have Vivo’s locations been raided? In December last year, the Income Tax Department had raided several locations of Chinese companies such as Oppo, Xiaomi and One Plus.

After this, Xiaomi’s India head Manu Jain was also questioned. The ED had attached assets worth Rs 5000 crore linked to Xiaomi’s bank accounts, but later the matter reached the court, where the High Court had stayed the action.

In August last year, some locations of another Chinese company ZTE were also raided.
