‘Gem’ mining in Boudh: Section 144 imposed around the site
The Boudh district administration has imposed Section 144 in and around Shardapalli village under Shagda Panchayat of Boudh, as a mad rush was witnessed to collect gems near the pond digging site.
According to reports, after a video of it went viral on social media, local people reached the spot to extract the gem.
According to sources, during the excavation of the pond two days ago, some local people saw the gem-like material and since then people have been flocking to the area daily to try their luck.
It is pertinent to mention here that there is no official report of any discovery of precious metals from the spot. Further, no response has been received from the authorities in this regard.
However, after the viral video caused overcrowding, the administration imposed prohibitory orders in the area and sent a scientific team from Phulbani to investigate the claims.
On the other hand, a team of Geological Survey of India (GSI) in Keonjhar is searching for gold in Sunkhni forest of Bansapal block.
The team of geologists is digging more than 100 meters and collecting samples from 15 places in the area.
Notably, the area under Telkoi and Bansapal blocks was in the news for potential gold reserves in the 80s. After this the search operation was stopped due to some reasons. However, the GSI has once again started searches in the same area.
