Khordha DHH operates without BP machine, patients call it ’embarrassing’; CDMO summoned

Hard to believe, but Khordha District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) does not even have a blood pressure machine for patients. The matter came to light after newly appointed district collector K Sudarshan Chakraborty visited the hospital on Thursday.

According to sources, Chakraborty took over as Khordha District Collector on Thursday. Soon after taking over the responsibility, Chakraborty visited DHH to take stock of the situation.

The District Collector, however, expressed displeasure over the non-availability of blood pressure machines in the hospital. On enquiry, they came to know that there is a BP machine in the hospital, but as soon as the machine broke down, the hospital authorities are sending the patients to the outlet outside the hospital premises to measure their BP level.

Similarly, the District Collector also expressed displeasure with the hospital administration for not maintaining cleanliness in the hospital. Meanwhile, he has directed the concerned hospital authorities to improve the sanitary system and provide adequate care to the patients.

Santosh Kumar Biswal, a patient said, “It is a headquarters hospital, where many patients visit every day. But it is shameful that there is no BP machine in the hospital, due to which the patients are suffering a lot and they are falling prey to middlemen. The government has provided only a big building for the hospital which does not have BP machine. The government should provide adequate infrastructure so that the people here are not deprived of minimum service.

Uday, a doctor said “Since BP machine is not available, I have asked my patients to do BP check-up outside as per their convenience. Only then I prescribe medicines to them.”

When asked, the District Collector said, “It was a normal visit and I have asked the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) for a meeting.”
