Birmingham, Aug 6 (PTI) Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who went through the worst phase of her career after a poor showing at the Tokyo Olympics, made a spectacular comeback with a gold medal to dominate the Commonwealth Games.

The last 12 months have been a stressful one for Vinesh but the change in the way she meets and practices with family has given her career the right path once again.

Vinesh, who reached the Tokyo Olympics as the top seed, had already crashed out in the first round. After this injury and a tussle with the wrestling federation pushed him down mentally.

The 27-year-old had to undergo elbow surgery last year and then change the way she practices. He practiced with boys from the under-15 category.

“If my training is going well, I feel fine mentally too,” she said after winning the 53kg gold medal at the Commonwealth Games here on Saturday.

Vinesh, who won the gold medal for the third time in the Commonwealth Games, said, “Only I know how hard I have worked for this medal. This medal is very special considering what I have done in the last 12 months.

Vinesh faced a tough challenge to win the trials to make it to the Commonwealth Games squad.

On Vinesh’s triumphant return, national coach Jitendra Yadav said, “He was not getting the training he needed earlier. Now it has changed and according to me this is the difference.
