Saudi Arabia April Consumer Price Index 2.3% – Government data

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s consumer price index rose 2.3% in April from a year earlier, driven by higher prices for transportation and food and beverages, government data showed on Sunday.

The Consumer Price Index, or CPI, rose 2 percent in April 2022 from the same period a year ago, primarily driven by increases in transportation prices as well as food and beverages.

Transportation prices climbed 4.6 percent, driven by a 9.5 percent increase in gasoline prices, as well as a nearly 4.1 percent increase in car prices.

Food and beverage prices increased by 4.3 percent, led by a 3.5 percent increase in meat prices and 13.5 percent in vegetable prices.

Prices of personal goods and services increased by 2.8 percent, mainly as a result of increase in the prices of jewellery, watches and watches.

Compared to March 2022, consumer prices increased by 0.4%, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Statistics said in a statement.
