Kolkata, May 24 (PTI) West Bengal’s Minister of State for Education, Paresh Adhikari, left for his hometown in Cooch Behar on Tuesday morning despite the CBI’s directive not to leave Kolkata. A CBI official gave this information.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the minister’s daughter in connection with the alleged illegal appointment of her in a government-aided school.

A CBI official said that Paresh boarded a flight from the city airport at around 7.30 am and left for Bagdogra.

He told PTI, “We had asked the minister not to leave the city. We have learned that he has left for Bagdogra this morning. We will investigate the matter.”

The CBI officials have interrogated Paresh, MLA from Mekliganj, for three days. He has been questioned in connection with the investigation into the alleged scam of appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff in government and aided schools.

The Calcutta High Court had recently quashed the appointment of the minister’s daughter in a government-aided school and asked her to return the salary she had received during her tenure as a teacher.
