Indian women’s hockey team lost to Australia in the semi-finals, will now play for bronze

Birmingham, Aug 6 (PTI) The Indian women’s hockey team defeated Australia in a thrilling semi-final shootout of the Commonwealth Games after Vandana Katariya made an impressive comeback in the last minute with a goal. Lost by 3 and will now play for bronze medal.

India will face New Zealand in the bronze medal match.

Rebecca Greiner’s goal in the 10th minute helped Australia take the lead but then the Indian defense, led by goalkeeper captain Savita Poonia, kept Australia tied. In the 49th minute, Vandana Kataria scored the equalizer for the fourth-placed Indian team at the Tokyo Olympics.

Neha, Navneet Kaur and Lalremsiami could not score for India in the controversial penalty shootout while Ambrosia Malone, Amy Lawton and Caitlin Nobbs were on target for Australia.

India got six penalty corners in the first quarter but the goal could not be scored.

After this, the Indian defense did not give any chance to the Australian strikers, performing brilliantly.
